Bumpkin Island Hull Ma. by Kathi Dugan
Tucked away in the harbor of Hull, Ma. is a magical place of sand and rocks, screeching gulls, lapping waves, an island plot and a disappearing and re-appearing with- the -tides, twisting, turning sandbar. It was to such a place that I was called by a home owner, who was lucky enough to overlook this view from his windows and elevated back porch every day. My assignment was to capture certain elements of the scene, add the expression of his enjoyment of it all to one side corner of the painting and help him bring the outside inside, where he would be enabled to still see the view, even in the dark or on a rainy, cloudy day. He expressly wanted kayaks skimming over the water, a view of the Tobin Bridge and windmill from afar, the commuter boat traveling it's course and a gull dropping a clam to the rocks below. I was able to give him everything he requested!
