Kathi Dugan

A cozy pastry shop, "French Memories" of Cohasset, Ma., is the backdrop for this portrayal of two long term friends as they enjoy a pleasant respite from normal schedules, sharing piping hot coffee and flaky treats. It is a celebration, a momentary retreat into the timeless heart of girlhood: the two chatter, laugh and sometimes giggle as they catch up on current news and events. As an artist, I took a few liberties while painting elements within the shop, narrowing the windows and grouping some of the decorative accessories more closely together than they actually are. Outside, it was a chilly, windy day in early March but inside the shop there was warmth, cheerfulness and the air was filled with the pleasant aroma of fresh baked goodies and fragrant coffee.
