BABES IN THE WOODS by Kathi Dugan
Two children, a young girl and a babe, have fallen asleep in the woods, nestled together beside a running stream. Over them stands watch a glorious angel, protecting them from any harm.
The story behind the painting:
The two children, after an outdoor excursion, had drifted off to sleep on a couch. The light, just above their heads and to the end of the couch, cast soft highlights upon the drowsy babes. It was a very easy transition of the imagination to transfer them from sofa to river bank and create the angel as the source of light, in place of the lamp.
Not being able to find one family photo of a mom tenderly glancing down at her child (every mom was looking directly into the camera and pose smiling!) the artist needed to use some ingenuity. She combined the likeness of her daughter's face with a few sketches by some master painters, using all as references to obtain the desired pose and expression she was seeking.
The original painting is available; if interested, please contact the artist.
Acrylic on Gesso Board.
If you would like a portrait of your loved one painted into a fantasy setting, please take a look at "Prices/ General Information" and feel free to contact the artist. The artist is happy to create commissioned pieces.
